Governance

Stamford is committed to environmental & socially responsible investing, and has put in place a progressive ESG policy

Impact Partnerships

Creating meaningful partnerships to lower emissions now and beyond.

Carbon Credits

SSM has partnered with market leader Climate Partner to
offer charterers the opportunity to offset the carbon output
from vessel voyages.

Methanol propulsion

SSM and Green Marine have formed a joint venture in
Singapore to build, commercially and technically manage
methanol hybrid propulsion vessels across multiple market
segments.

Live Data Streaming

SSM has partnered with Storm Geo to provide live trading, weather, and carbon data to analyze and improve efficiency
of the existing fleet.

Ammonia Energy Assoication

SSM has signed up with AEA to be kept abreast of the technological development of usage of Ammonia as an Alternative Fuel in the maritime industry.

Data Driven Energy Efficiency Analysis

SSM service agreement with NJORD to screen all future acquisition
for EET implementation to ensure SSM’s environmental pledges.

Carbon Footprint Tracking

Strategic partnership with Vasco, a leading provider
of maritime voyage emission management solutions,
to effectively manage our carbon emissions.

Transition Regulation

Regulatory compliance

Stamford is going beyond the IMO regulation with a
commitment to carbon neutrality by 2040.

Poseidon Principles

SSM is supportive and fully capable of complying with
the Poseidon Principles, a voluntary carbon tracking ship
finance programme.

Class Society Audit

SSM’s vessels “Annual Efficiency Ratio” (AER) are audited by an independent 3rd party (Lloyd’s Register, ABS and DNV) to ensure
that SSM are in compliance with the “International Maritime Organization (IMO) Absolute Targets” and “IMO Intensity Targets”.

SSM will beat the 2030 and 2050 through investment in new
technology, EET’s and carbon programmes.

Environmental Scrap Policy

SSM will follow the Hong Kong International Convention
for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships.

Carbon Offsetting

Energy Savings

Stamford will offer its charterers 3 carbon offsetting programs through which owners and charterers can offset carbon from each voyage.

The Stamford office is carbon neutral through a carbon offsetting scheme in Borneo

Stamford will match their charters $ for $ up to a maximum commitment of US$25k per vessel p.a., allowing some vessels to qualify as carbon negative or neutral

DELIVERING TOWARDS THE GLOBAL GOALS

Less than 20% of the 35 million Bangladeshi households have access to clean cooking. The Bondhu Chula, which loosely translates as the ‘friendly stove’ in Bengali is solving this problem. Traditionally, cooking is done over an open firepit, releasing smoke and particulate pollutants. These pollutants contribute to nearly 50,000 premature deaths a year and cause millions in the country to suffer from lung, eye, or skin infections.

The Bangladesh Bondhu Foundation is changing this through its Bondhu Chula, which is designed to ensure more efficient and cleaner home cooking. This project works with micro-entrepreneurs who receive training in stove production, sales and marketing and after-sales service.

The Bondhu Chula stove cuts carbon emissions
by 50% and saves families money on fuel costs

DELIVERING TOWARDS THE GLOBAL GOALS

This Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+) project in eastern Cambodia mitigates drivers of deforestation such as in-migration and small-scale agriculture, and to enhance local livelihoods.

The project is working with 2,500 households (~12,500 people) within the 20 participating villages by the project area which is nearly 300,000 hectares of forest.

Key project activities include patrols, clarifying and securing indigenous community tenure, and law enforcement. The project is being implemented with Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) and the National Forestry Administration that work together on the project.

Cambodia's tree cover has decreased 28% since 2000.

DELIVERING TOWARDS THE GLOBAL GOALS

Located across the country, this portfolios of projects is supporting India’s green growth agenda by enhancing renewable energy capacity to meet growing energy demands.

The country’s rapid population growth has meant increasing pressure on electricity generating capacity, of which only 13% is currently supplied by renewable energy. The project displaces electricity which would have otherwise been drawn primarily from fossil fuel power stations, also improving local air quality while avoiding solid waste generation associated with coal-fired power plants. Carbon finance is essential to support India’s green growth agenda and achieve the country’s installed capacity target of 175 GW by 2022.

In addition to delivering approximately 350,000 tonnes of emissions reductions annually to help take urgent action to combat climate change (SDG 13), the project delivers a number of other sustainable development benefits. These include:
